The modules AMI4655 Microcontrollers and AMI4460 Systems Design using FPGAs require development kits that the students must buy:
| Module | Kit | Approximate Price (GBP) |
| AMI4655 Microcontrollers | V3 PIC Dev Board | 120 |
| AMI4460 Systems Design using FPGAs | Altera DE1 Board | 100 |
Telephone call charges can be kept low by contacting tutors mainly by email. Overseas students may choose to investigate the availability of low cost calls to the UK before starting the course. However, our experience has been that students find email is suitable for the taught modules and a telephone call is rarely required.
One or two modules specify a core textbook that will need to be purchased in advance of starting the module. If this is the case, it should be made clear in the module overview. (Students based in the UK can borrow the book from the library).
All modules have recommended reading and students may decide to purchase additional books and gradually build up their own library. If you choose to follow this path it would be sensible to budget around 35 GBP per module. The library at Bolton will post books to students, but this service is restricted to addresses in the UK.
The fee for a module that is studied as a short course for Continuing Professional Development is the same as that shown in the table at the top of this page.
