Solder joints operate at temperatures where creep must be taken into account and are often subjected to temperature cycling. This type of thermal fatigue can have additional detrimental effects on solder joint performance when combined with creep conditions. Thus, solder joints are always manufactured with a combination of ‘good design, materials and manufacture’ to take account of such conditions.
