Service conditions that could promote the onset of solder joint fatigue failure include:

1. changing mechanical loads (for example, vibrations in a fighter aircraft);
2. temperature cycling and power cycling of the components;
3. differences in coefficient of thermal expansion of mating components;
4. non-uniform temperatures within restrained components.
