ESD Awareness: Search 2
Give three reasons why we should be concerned about ESD
Any of these answers are good – others may be possible!
- ESD can damage components during manufacture
- ESD damaged components may fail, causing rework
- ESD can cause latent damage. Components may pass tests and
fail later in the field
- ESD damaged components may have altered characteristics or
reduced performance
- ESD failures cause loss of production
- ESD failures in the field cause customer dissatisfaction, and
increase field service and customer care costs.
The key point is that there are real costs arising from ESD damage.
Failures at the customers' site are the most expensive failures.
